INVEST YOUR CURRENCY

Your time. Your talent. Their economic future.

Volunteers, affectionately known as Coin Changers are the heartbeat of our mission who turn their time, talent, experience, and access into real opportunities for students. When you show up, you help students practice financial skills that grow into ownership and long‑term wealth. When you share what you know, you open doors students didn’t even know existed. And when you offer your experience, you give them confidence they can carry into adulthood.

Economic mobility doesn’t happen by accident; it happens because people like you decide to invest in the next generation. Your presence matters. Your skills matter. Your story matters. And your willingness to open the next door can change a student’s entire trajectory.

Different contributions. One economic future.

YOUR TIME HAS VALUE

Our Coins Change Communities

Volunteering is more than lending a hand. It is an investment of time, talent, and experience that expands what we can make possible for students. Every hour strengthens our capacity to create access, deliver experiences, and move young people closer to financial ownership.

Volunteer Story

FOUR HOURS. A FOUR-YEAR RETURN

“I was just looking for something to do outside the house to use my skills and give back. I saw a Facebook post looking for volunteers to teach financial literacy, so I showed up. I had no idea that one decision would eventually lead me from volunteer to Volunteer of the Quarter, to board member, and now Board Chair!

But what makes me most proud is that service didn’t stop with me. For the past two years, my family has volunteered alongside me, stepped into leadership roles of their own, and together we’ve invested more than 50 hours serving our community through 8 Cents in a Jar. I came looking for something to do. I found something worth belonging to, leading, and bringing my family into."

A 2017 RAND report found that incarcerated individuals participating in education programs (like financial literacy programs) were 43% less likely to return to prison. They also concluded that these individuals were 13% more likely to find employment after their release. Education not only helps these citizens live a better life following their release, it also gives them a much better chance of staying out of prison. Learn More About Our Jumpstart Financial Literacy Program. We begin working with individuals prior to their release to teach them valuable skills, such as how to open a bank account, create a budget, save money, build credit, and more. We continue to assist them once they’re back in the community to help them manage their finances moving forward.
